DCoP Masterclass - Expert Witness: Report Writing (Feb 08)

Division of Counselling Psychology is offering a Masterclass on Expert Witness Report Wiritng, to be held on 1st February 2008 from 10am-5pm.



Susan van Scoyoc is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Foundation Member of the Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy. She also has extensive experience as an Expert Witness and is a UK Registered Expert Witness.

Michael Bird, LLB, is a solicitor with extensive experience of the legal profession. Before qualifying as a solicitor he regularly gave evidence in court when working for the police and then moved to the other side of the witness box, instructing expert witnesses in a variety of legal settings.

Unlike other expensive courses, which are mostly aimed at the medical profession, this is an introduction to the legal system and how skills as a counselling psychologist can be used in such a setting.

The Expert Witness Report is the foundation of Expert Witness work and a poorly written report may lead to questions about the Expert’s competence. Attendees will learn how to prepare reports which are more valuable to the commissioning solicitor and the court as well as defensible, so less vulnerable to cross examination in the witness box.

This workshop is suitable for trainees approaching the end of their training and chartered psychologists.
