University of Salford to master media psychology
The University of Salford is to run a unique postgraduate course at MediaCityUK, looking at how people engage and interact with the media and internet.
The new Media Psychology MSc is a UK first, and will give postgraduate students the opportunity to study the impact of mass media and social media on the mind and also how psychological techniques can be used to create effective communications campaigns.
The course is aimed at psychology students and media professionals who want to improve their understanding of audiences and how print, radio, TV and social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter impact on people and how they can be used to better effect.
The course curriculum will cover issues including body image, pornography, violence and celebrity culture – along with the role of the media in education, communication and entertainment. There will also be a focus on how adults and children interact with computers as well as looking at emotional responses to computers and computer games.
